What are mini implants?
Mini dental implants are made from bio-compatible titanium alloy. They are about the size of wooden toothpicks and gently placed into the jaw to retain dentures and removable bridges.
When can they be used?
The most effective use is for long-term denture stabilization and retention. They are also used to eliminate the metal clasps that clamp on teeth for removable bridges. They are ideal for replacing missing lower front teeth that are naturally very narrow.
What type of surgery is involved?
These mini implants are placed in the dental office with normal local anesthesia. It is often possible to attach them directly to the denture at the same visit..
What about failures?
Just like teeth any implant can fail. However, due to their narrow diameter, they can be replaced at minimal cost without expensive remakes of the denture.
How do I care for them?
As with all dentistry there is a short adjustment period as you become accustomed placing and removing the denture. There is normal brushing of the implants, normal eating and talking. In the evening there is normal brushing of the implants and dentures. You can elect to sleep with them.
What is the cost?
Traditional implants can be terrific replacements for replacing teeth. However, they can also be quite costly. The mini implants are typically about one third of the cost of traditional implants.
